We read everything that arrives here. EscapeHTML is a small project, so a message that says which tool you were using and what you expected gets a useful answer fastest.

Since EscapeHTML is an HTML entity encoder and decoder, most of what arrives concerns decoding a scraped string full of entities — and the occasional result that seems off. Either is welcome here.

Where to write

Write to support@escapehtml.com. Replies usually go out within a business day or two.

What to include

  • The page address or the name of the tool.
  • Your inputs, which for this tool means the text or entity string you paste; exactness is not needed.
  • What you expected to see, and what you actually saw.
  • Your browser and device, if the problem was visual.

Anything concerning decoding a scraped string full of entities is easier to answer when you include the page address, so we can look at the same tool you did.

When a number looks off

For a developer tool, accuracy is the whole point. Because the EscapeHTML tool works the way described on its own page — it escapes the five characters that change meaning in HTML — ampersand, angle brackets and both quote styles — and because decoding is single-pass, an escaped sequence like A resolves back to the literal text A rather than to A, which is exactly the behavior that keeps a second decode from turning sanitized input back into live markup — a wrong answer almost always traces back to one assumption, an input that does not fit the model, or a rounding edge case. If you think you have found one, tell us the value you expected and which tool you used, and we will check it against the method.
